The Factory Metal Works/Clubmx Daytona Report

Chesterfield, SC (March 9, 2014) - The fourth round of the 250 East Coast Championship brought yet another top-10 finish to The Factory Metal Works team. Consistency has been the key for Vince Friese this season as he has earned a top-10 finish in each of the east coast rounds thus far. His most recent 8th place finish at Daytona was enough to hold on to 5th place in points as well as the top privateer honors. Unfortunately for the two other team riders, Owen and Catanzaro, they ran into some bad luck and were regulated to the 19th and 22nd positions overall.

Going into timed qualifying for the night show, the team had another solid qualifying session that left all three riders placed in the top 16 overall. The overall qualifying times included Friese in 9th place (1:07.51), AJ Catanzaro in 10th place overall (1:07.56), and Jace Owen not far behind in the 16th position (1:08.43). With a successful qualifying session behind them, the team headed into the first heat with high expectations. Heat 1 featured both AJ Catanzaro and Jace Owen. When the gate dropped, Catanzaro went to work immediately, challenging Blake Wharton for the 2nd position on the opening lap of the heat race. AJ was the only rider all night that was able to jump completely over the wall jump and gained a significant amount of time on the leaders through this section. Catanzaro would eventually end the race in the 6th position and transfer directly to the main event. Meanwhile teammate Jace Owen finished in the 10th place during the first heat and was forced to qualify for the main event through the LCQ. In the second heat race Friese began around the 7th position and eventually finished in 8th.
