The Factory Metal Works/Clubmx Detroit Report

Chesterfield, SC (March 17, 2014) - The fifth round of the 250 East Coast Championship in Detroit was a success for the Factory Metal Works team. Once again, Vince Friese showed that he is one of the top riders in the series by bringing home another top 10 finish with his 7th place overall. So far, Vince has placed in the top 10 at each round of the series with his average finishing position being 6.2. Vince still sits in the 5th place in the East Coast points race, his most recent finish helped extend the point advantage over the 6th place rider to 12 points. AJ Catanzaro now holds the 15 position overall in points after his 15th place finish in the main event following a poor start. AJ has shown flashes of “top-5 speed” all season and is still waiting for that breakout performance in the main event. Team rookie Jace Owen did not race Detroit, Jace and the team decided it would be best to sit out a few rounds of the series in order to heal a nagging shoulder injury. Owen is set to return to racing in several weeks at St. Louis barring any setback.

Timed qualifying for the night show went well for Friese and Catanzaro. Both riders secured decent qualifying positions by taking 12th (57.49) and 16th (58.56) overall. When the night show rolled around, Friese and Catanzaro were forced to qualify through heat race number 1 together. Both of the Factory Metal Works riders were qualified directly to the main event through the heat by taking the 4th and 6th place positions when the checkered flag flew.
