The Factory Metal Works/Clubmx Toronto Report
Chesterfield, SC (March 23, 2014) - The sixth round of the 250 East Coast Championship in Toronto saw both Vince Friese and AJ Catanzaro bring home top-10 overall finishes with a 6th and 9th place respectively. In Toronto, the 6th place finish was no easy task for Vince as he lost his front break on the 3rd lap of the main event but continued to fight. For Friese, it has been the same story week in and week out: consistency. For the sixth round in a row, Vince has placed his Factory Metal Works Honda within the top-10 with his worst finish being an 8th place at Daytona. So far, the only three riders have been able to accomplish this feat in the East Coast are points leader Martin Davalos, Justin Bogle, and Vince Friese.
Meanwhile, AJ Catanzaro has finally began to find his groove and was able to capture his first top-10 finish of the 2014 season with his 9th place finish. This finish moves AJ to 14th overall in points and 17pts behind the 10th position. Prior to the main event, AJ had a stellar heat race where he ran in the top-3 for several laps before eventually finishing in the 6th position to qualify out of his heat. Following the race AJ stated “I got a great start in the heat race and was able to run with the leaders for awhile, and I’m continuing to get more comfortable riding at their intensity. In the main, I just put in 15 consistent laps and rode to the 9th place finish. I still have a lot more in the tank, but it is something I can keep building off of.” After finally putting all of the pieces together in the main event, AJ knows what must be done to finish the season on a strong note and make a run at the top-10 in points.
Timed qualifying for the night show didn’t go as well for Friese and Catanzaro as in previous weeks. However, both riders were able to secure decent qualifying positions within the top-20 via a 12th place from Friese (52.77) and 17th (53.84) from Catanzaro. Despite the qualifying times, both riders pulled great starts in their heat races and transferred to the main event in top-6 positions.
